We are a small family business and also work on the farm looking after the animals. We have three cottages in the Courtyard area that can be let independently or together as a large group as well as two other properties on site. For those looking for a wedding social event birthday or other occasion then the farm can be hired with exclusive use of all the accommodation. Alternatively we book each property independently as all have private areas as well as all the grounds around the farm to use.
The Courtyard Property (Reuben’s Roost, Bremen’s Barn and Hope’s Hideaway) has affectionally been referred to as the “Tardis” as they are larger on the inside than they look! They have five-star reviews and have been highly commended in the Sunday Times Travel section.
Connected via the courtyard these properties can sleep 24 plus guests in 11 bedrooms. All rooms are individually furnished and include 4 poster beds and up to date facilities.
The Courtyard property is very characterful and is perfect for get togethers. There is a stunning communal kitchen/dining area in Hope’s, enabling all to cook, dine and socialise together. There is also a large games room with a pool table and lots of sofas for relaxing with big screen TV etc. Reuben’s living area is also very large and has a high vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, lots of space to socialise (a perfect area to roll the rugs up and party) as well as having a beautiful mezzanine area to escape and read a book, or to sleep as there is a sofa bed up there!. In addition the whole property has break off rooms, kitchens and large living areas which allows you to be together or independent, depending upon your needs.
plus it has a small sofa bed situated in the mezzanine. This cottage has a downstairs double bedroom near the bathroom and 2 upstairs bedrooms (a double and a small double with a single bed in the trussed attic room- low beams) There is a large high vaulted open plan living dining area, a fireplace and comfy sofas situated under lovely exposed trusses and a stunning mezzanine with a Juliette balcony. There is also a separate kitchen fully kitted out for small or large groups.

Upstairs is a long open plan sitting, dining and kitchen running along the top of the building with the original exposed trusses and wooden floors with rugs and comfy sofas as well as a kitchen kitted out for small or large groups.

This cottage works well for any occasion and has a beautiful ground floor high vaulted kitchen with a 4 burner range cooker, two large fridge freezers and washing facilities. Attached to the kitchen is a large dining area and open plan snug with plenty of space for cooking, dining and mingling together. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor (a four- poster, and two twins) near 2 bathrooms. Upstairs is another double bedroom, as well as an open plan living and games room with pool table running along the top of the building under exposed beams and trusses.
Our accommodation has a wealth of individuality, plenty of space and cooking facilities as well as luxury bedrooms, comfy beds including four poster, some of these are downstairs for ease of access and all are close to bathrooms. We have tried to provide you with accommodation that is up to date but relaxed, where you can feel at home and put your feet up after walk in the peaks straight from the door or where you can chill out with your family and friends either by the fire or watching the fantastic sunsets across the peaks on the decking or in the gardens.
The gardens are spacious and safe and there are decking and BBQ areas as well as an enclosed lawned garden. There are also paddocks, wooded areas and 22 acres of fields to explore. Feeding the Alpacas and Goats on the farm is almost obligatory, as is collecting eggs!
In addition we have two smaller properties at the farm, If available these can also be included with any of the courtyard properties. However the Alpaca Hut Hot Tub is strictly for 2-4 adults and is sadly not a party tub!
The double bedroom has a slipper bath and the 2nd bedroom is a twin next to a lovely shower bathroom. Also included in this space is living and cooking facilities
We liken it to a luxury Shepherds hut but with a difference! It has a double bed ensuite as well as an outside Hot Tub.
If you would like use of the Hot Tub then the Alpaca Hut has to be hired as the Tub is specially prepared for every booking. (terms and conditions apply for use of the Hot Tub)
All our cottages are self-catering and we provide a little welcome kitchen pack of a couple of tea towels, cloths, washing up liquid, and some loo rolls etc to get you going but you will need to provide all of your toiletries as well as all your food and provisions and towels
We make up all the permanent beds for your arrival but as a small family working farm, we ask that you bring your own Towels, in addition if you are using the occasional sofa beds or travel cots please bring your own bedding for these
Outside there are spacious patio, decking and BBQ areas with garden furniture, there is also a large lawned garden and a little tyke play area to enjoy, these lead up to the mown paddocks where you can play games. Apart from your private areas the gardens are shared with Bremen’s Barn and Reuben’s Roost and there is plenty of space to social distance. The grounds are extensive with over 22 acres to escape to and use.
In addition, there is also a lovely space up near the animal sanctuary overlooking the farm with stunning views and picnic tables where you can relax and meet the animals. You are also welcome to explore the farm and we mow a couple of our fields for games and there are plenty of quiet areas as well as lots of space around the farm for guests to use. Apart from your private area, the animal viewing, fields, woods, pond and other farm areas are shared with the other accommodation on site, so please be mindful there may be other guests around as well as ourselves, though the patio and courtyard areas around Hope’s Hideaway are completely private to you.
Lower Damgate Farm is also home to Dovedale Animal Sanctuary. All our animals have been rescued and we have alpacas, goats, ponies, sheep and a number of ducks, chickens and geese. If you would like to spend time with the animals you are very welcome but safety is paramount and our animals have all been rescued so please be mindful of that. You are welcome to feed the animals during your stay so please bring some extra apples and carrots, (though we do also provide you with a bucket of food for the goats and alpacas) In addition if our hens are laying then you are welcome to collect free-range farm eggs from the hen house! First dibs!
Please don’t forget your walking boots and wellies as there are stunning walks straight from the door and as a working farm there are animals and implements on site and sometimes mud! We also have our own pets around the farm and you will meet our two mini labradoodles, who are very friendly! You are welcome to bring your own pet by arrangement so please let us know if you are bringing yours.
As well as the farm, the areas surrounding Dovedale are stunning and there are some great places to visit locally. We are close to the Stepping Stones and Thors Cave, local villages of Ilam, Alstonefield, Milldale, Wetton, Tissington and Hartington as well as the famous attractions of Chatsworth House and Alton Towers. If you have a look at our website Damgate. com and Facebook page “LowerDamgateFarm” you will find helpful information that includes places to eat, take-outs, local walks and places to explore. We are also happy to reserve a table or point you in the right direction for one our lovely local pubs, restaurants or tearooms.
Pets are welcome at the farm in the courtyard property however we try and keep Purdy’s Place and The Alpaca Hut pet free, though with the farm being home to an animal sanctuary this isn’t always easy!
Lower Damgate Farm is a little haven away from an ever increasingly busy world and whatever your occasion our aim is to make your stay as comfortable and as special as we can.
we look forward to welcoming you
Karl and Carolyn
