The Space

Reuben’s Roost is a unique luxury warm and welcoming 3 bedroomed barn conversion situated around a lovely courtyard on our working farm. This is home to Dovedale Animal Sanctuary where we have rescued alpacas, goats and a number of other farm animals. Guests are welcome to come and meet the animals and we always have a bucket of food around for you to join in at feeding time.

Reuben’s is a beautiful cottage that retains a wealth of individual charm, with a beautiful large open plan living area situated under the apex roof that retains the old oak trusses and beams as well as the original stone flagged floors. Beautifully furnished with antiques and comfy sofas that you can relax on in front of the fire after a day exploring the surrounding Peak District.

With three bedrooms sleeping 6 guests and a sofa bed for extra on the mezzanine above the living area it has plenty of space for a break away.

The downstairs sitting and dining room is stunning with an apex roof that has exposed beams and trusses. Tastefully furnished with antiques and lovely comfy sofas as well a fireplace to warm you after a day exploring the peaks. The farmhouse table seats up to 10 guests and the flagged stone floors are warmed by sumptuous rugs. There is also a beautiful mezzanine above this room where you can escape to read a book or relax on the comfy small sofa bed up there.

The kitchen is fully equipped whilst retaining the charm of a country cottage,  it has an electric cooker, undercounter fridge and a separate undercounter freezer, dishwasher, microwave, with more than enough crockery and utensils and equipment to cater for everyone and more.

The three bedrooms are all beautifully furnished and all have very comfortable beds as well as luxury furnishings. These include a large ground floor double bedroom with a large solid wooden bed and sink. This room is close to the downstairs bathroom has recently been refurbished and has a separate bath plus a shower cubicle. Though not assessable this bedroom and bathroom it is easily managed by those less mobile.

Up the wooden staircase are two further bedrooms. The first is a large light and airy double bedroom, The third bedroom under the eaves is characterful and has exposed trusses and low beams!  It is furnished with two single beds, plus there is an occasional toddler bed!  This room also has an internal gable window that looks down onto the sitting room and across to the mezzanine. Children love this room as they can hide and watch the grownups below!

Completely standalone this cottage sleeps 6 plus guests and has its own amenities, including central heating, Hot water, Wifi and a smart TV. There is a separate laundry room on site with a washing machine and we can provide a travel cot and highchairs.

We provide a little welcome pack of necessities to get you going but please be aware that all our accommodation is self-catering and you will need to provide all of your toiletries as well as all your food and provisions and towels.

Reuben’s Roost works well on its own but can also be hired for group bookings with the other courtyard properties Hope’s Hideaway or Bremen’s Barn or both.

As a cottage in itself it is completely private. You have your own parking areas as well as outside seating, dining and BBQ area. The enclosed gardens are shared with the courtyard properties and we also mow a couple of fields for games and there are plenty of quiet areas as well as lots of space around the farm for our guests to use. So, if privacy is what you want then there are lots of places on the farm to find it.

Please don’t forget your walking boots and wellies as there are stunning walks straight from the door and as a working farm there are animals and implements on site and sometimes mud! We also have our own pets around the farm and you will meet our two mini labradoodles, who are very friendly! You are welcome to bring your own pets by arrangement in this cottage.

As well as the farm, the areas surrounding Dovedale are stunning and there are some great places to visit locally. We are close to the Stepping Stones and Thors Cave, local villages of Ilam, Alstonefield, Milldale, Wetton, Tissington and Hartington as well as the famous attractions of Chatsworth House and Alton Towers.

If you look at our “helpful information page” you will find a wealth of information to help you, this includes things to do, places to visit and details of local pubs, takeout’s and restaurants as well as recommendations for extra activities. We are also happy to reserve a table or point you in the right direction for one our lovely local pubs, restaurants or tearooms.

The Farm is also Home to Dovedale Animal Sanctuary and we lend ourselves to guests who love animals and would like to come meet and greet them as well as join us when we invite you to help us feed them! It is always good to bring a spare carrot and apple or two as they are rather greedy, you can then collect eggs for breakfast though the hens may join you as they all roam around the farm.  All 100 or so animals at the farm are rescued, except Ozzi-bear one of our own dogs, and you are welcome to bring your own pet to join you on your holiday and we are sure they would love to explore the area just as much as you will.

If you would like to get away from it all and stay on our lovely farm, meet our alpacas, goats, ponies and sheep as well as all the ducks, chickens and geese you’d be very welcome and we would love to meet you and welcome you to the farm for any occasion.
