Lower Damgate Farm is a perfect destination for any occasion be it a family gathering, small or large group, romantic break, birthday celebration, reunion and special occasions or to host your wedding, workshop, team meeting or event. The Farm is situated in a wonderful position nestled between Dovedale and the Manifold Rivers in the Peak District National Park with far reaching views and stunning walks straight from the front door.
Our ethos in life is that ‘nothing is a problem’ and though we are only a small family business we take pride in what we have created over the last 20 years and it gives us pleasure to be able to share it with you.
We provide luxury self-catering holiday accommodation in and around our 16th Century Farm House as well as B&B accommodation in our own home. We also have a dedicated event barn and garden room where we host weddings and workshops as well as business and charity events. Dovedale Barn is licenced to hold weddings and we have facilities on site to ensure all your needs are met when you stay with us.
We are also home to a working farm and Dovedale Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1996 by Carolyn with the rescue of two sheep! Sadly they are no longer with us but we now house a ménage of animals from Alpacas, Goats, Horses, sheep, geese ducks and chickens and many of our guests feed the animals and collect eggs from the hen house for breakfast!
Our accommodation is comprised of:
The Courtyard Property:
(Reuben’s Roost, Bremen’s Barn and Hope’s Hideaway which have been adapted for large groups as well as individuals depending upon your needs)
The Courtyard property has been highly commended in the Sunday Times Travel Reviews and has 11 bedrooms sleeping up to 22 guests in beds. There are also sofa beds and some put up beds. The permanent beds all have linen and are made up to welcome you.
The Farmhouse B&B
If your numbers are larger and you would like exclusive use then we can offer you The Farmhouse B&B rooms sleeping up to 5 guests. This accommodation is at the end of our farmhouse and comes without breakfast! There are 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a living area.
The Alpaca Hut
For added space or for an intimate romantic break for 2, we have our quirky Alpaca Hut; this is a wooden little shepherd’s hut which has all the luxuries you could wish for as well as a Hot Tub for you to escape to……
The Hot Tub is incorporated with the Alpaca Hut and is a perfect escape, or combine it with the rest of the accommodation for Exclusive use and you can share! So for those wishing to find the perfect place to unwind under the stars you can book this and escape for some peace and quiet or to share a glass of bubbly with friends…. It is however the perfect Honeymoon space!
Often described as a Tardis the farm has lots of areas to explore and the cottages are really lovely, a little quirky but all amenities are catered for with luxurious furnishings, antiques and comfortable beds including 4 poster as well as wifi and up to date technology.
The Courtyard property is connected via a courtyard and has been specially adapted for large groups where there is space to be together or separate depending upon your needs and the main living/dining area is large enough to meet, greet and seat everyone on site so that you can all dine and be together. However for those who want to be separate or do their own thing there are also other kitchens, dining, sitting and break off rooms. Plus with 11 – 14 bedrooms to choose from all individually and thoughtfully furnished you can escape for an hour or two for a comfortable snooze or escape from the real world.
There is a lot of space to relax and unwind in the cottages, or even roll back a rug and dance! (Though Dovedale Barn and Garden room is also an option for that). The accommodation also includes a large laundry room as well as a games room with a pool table, TV and board games plus there are a myriad of outside places to explore and escape to.
Bedrooms: All the double bedrooms are all large plus there is additional space to put a cot or small put up bed and still move! All the bedrooms are individually furnished, some with four poster beds, all luxurious and comfortable.
The break off and other living rooms enable you to spread out so you can take time out from each other and you don’t have to fight for the TV! However with Wifi and 4 different TV entertainment areas you can stream the latest football game or film or catch up on the news with the free sat channels.
The cottages are self-catering; however we also provide some “helpful local information” which includes details of caterers and other things to do. We are in the heart of the Peak District National Park with many local attractions like Chatsworth and Alton Towers as well as the National Trust village of Ilam a mile down the road.
If you don’t want to cater and like the option of meals cooked for your stay or for that special occasion we provide details for that, though we do provide you with all the crockery and cutlery for large groups and not just one set! We can even order you a keg of our local ale tapped and ready to go for when you arrive and happy to book a table at the local restaurant for you.
Rather than bringing your own equipment and filling your boot with every little item, we provide travel costs and highchairs and always have an abundant amount of almost anything else you may need. Supermarkets and local food suppliers deliver to the farm and we have fresh eggs in season and leave you with some necessities to get you going….
Around the cottages are south facing gardens as well as outside decking and seating areas where we have built three solid stone BBQ’s so you can cook for any occasion or taste! This area leads to an enclosed garden with a children play area and then on to the paddocks for ball games or into the woods to explore!
There are also 22 acres of grounds on the farm and mown areas if you would like to picnic in the fields or join us with hay making or feeding the animals. Guests are welcome to explore the farm and pet or feed the rescued animals, especially our cheeky goats and alpacas as well as collect eggs from the hen house for breakfast.
Our Farm is home to Dovedale Animal Sanctuary and every animal (apart from Ozzi-Bear one of our dogs) is rescued. Most of our animals have come from abused or neglected backgrounds so interaction must be supervised by an adult; however we have a feeding area up by Dovedale Barn and encourage and are often joined by our guests when we feed the animals.
We have a ménage of Alpacas and Goats as well as sheep and horses. We work very closely with these animals to ensure they are loved and feel safe. Dovedale Animal Sanctuary is a forever loving home so our animals will end their days here in safety and comfort.
We also have Chickens, Ducks and Geese on the farm and our guests often go and collect eggs straight from the hen house and cook them for breakfast…..
Pets are welcome at the farm in the courtyard property however we try and keep The B&B Rooms in the Farmhouse pet free, though with the farm being home to an animal sanctuary this isn’t always easy!
Our main weekend bookings are normally for the courtyard property plus any of the others, however if you are looking to book just one or two cottages we happily separate these for midweek breaks or by arrangement.
If the courtyard property is booked then there are the Farmhouse B&B Rooms by arrangement as we are not always available to cook breakfast, only because the animals need to be fed too!!
Lower Damgate Farm is very rural and private, the views are stunning from the farm and you can walk directly to the villages of Ilam Wetton and Alstonefield without the need for a car. We are very close to Dovedale, Milldale and the Stepping Stones as well as the Manifold valley and surrounding areas, therefore you can leave your car at the farm and take off for some truly spectacular walks.
For a special occasion or wedding we also have our Event Barn “Dovedale Barn”. We do a limited number of weddings and events a year that support Dovedale Animal Sanctuary. If not booked for a wedding or charity event then the barn can be hired to resident guests. Please be assured that we do not hire the barn out other than when the cottages have been booked with it, therefore you will not have to share the farm with anyone other than those resident on site.
The Garden room is a lovely sunny room with amazing views across the peaks and is a perfect setting of our regular yoga residential retreat as well as art and creative workshops. All use of Dovedale Barn and Garden Room supports Dovedale Animal Sanctuary.
Whatever your occasion our aim is to make your stay as comfortable and as special as we can. Lower Damgate Farm is a little haven away from an ever increasingly busy world. We have an ethos to life that “nothing is a problem” and there is an ambiance and peace at the farm which we hope you feel when you come and stay.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
