Peak District Farm Weddings and Events

Thank you for thinking of us for your wedding. We know that finding a venue is such an important thing which should be really exciting and fun so we try and make your wedding special and personal from the start. All our weddings are unique to you as you plan and design it yourself creating your own dream wedding but having a helping hand to lean on if you need it. We only do a limited number of weddings a year and dates are by choice on a first come basis, this means that we try and work to a date that you have in mind and do not have set dates. All our weddings support our onsite Animal Rescue Centre and our guests often have photographs and intermingle with our goats, alpacas, sheep and other animals, therefore being an animal lover is a big consideration.


We are a slightly quirky venue and every wedding is different, we have put the infrastructure together and it is your imagination that makes it special and unique to you, which means that our weddings are mainly a "Do It Yourself" event, including sourcing your own music and caterers etc. (though we do provide you with helpful information list of suppliers who have already been at the farm, from entertainment to caterers who can cater to all tastes from Hog Roasts, picnics, afternoon teas, sit down meals etc. however these are not finite and you can chose whom you'd like or do it yourself giving you the flexibility of choice. However even as a DIY venue we do not leave you to do all the hard work yourself as we are there to help and support throughout but especially on the day itself.


A viewing is essential as planning your own wedding is not an easy option but we find that it is certainly the most rewarding and amazing. Because we do a limited number of weddings a year, normally over three days (possibly four!) we get to know our couples well, and we would hope that you never feel as if you are on a conveyor belt!

Our website  is mainly about the cottages with old pictures (sorry we are not very techie!) however we have lots of pictures on our Facebook page  Please have a look and hopefully you'll get a feel of what we have to offer....and see pictures and reviews of couples and guests who’ve stayed with us.


Our ethos is to create something that we would want for ourselves and for you to go away with amazing and wonderful memories and hopefully come back to visit again it the future.

Our luxury 4 star cottages on site are booked as part of the wedding package and we offer you a venue that is a relaxed three night weekend experience rather than just a day, which is unusual!  This enables you to spend quality time with the 28 guests you've chosen to be with you on site. Who will hopefully be helping you to set up and to take down your creations in the barn and enjoying the comradery this entails. We also find that having the whole morning to get ready in the cottages with those closest to you is often as wonderful as the day itself. Having the day after is also very special in so much that our guests often set up a BBQ or other such fun activity whilst the clearing up is done. Then you can unwind together, go for a walk or just relax and enjoy the stillness of the farm with the left over beer! We also have a hot tub for the use of the wedding couple so you can chill and recount your amazing day. Feedbacks from guests say this is "amazing quality time" and often breaks the ice for those first meeting!


As well as our onsite cottages, we also have garden areas, mown paddocks as well and 20 acres of fields and hay meadows that you can use with the wedding barn. Dovedale Barn is very different from a usual "farm barn", as it has a high vault like wooden ceiling which is strung with twinkly fairy lights, this gives the barn its wow factor and creates the atmosphere for a completely different wedding day!


There are lots of places to mingle and plenty of space for activities. The facilities include a separate stunning garden room with far reaching views across the Farm and Peaks as well as a purpose built bar, inhouse toilets and shower with disabled access (so no port-a-loos!) plus there is a parlour kitchen for prepping or serving food (caterers cook in their facilities outside) There are also lovely areas to meet and greet your guests, so whether we serve your welcome drinks inside or out and even when our English weather isn't being kind, you can still see the animals and enjoy the wonderful views whilst you mingle with your guests.


We also have a large 2 acre wood by Blore Pastures called Dovedale View. This overlooks Ilam, Buster Hill and Thorpe Cloud and is the most amazing setting for a blessing.

The barn is licenced for civil weddings or you can get married in our local church in Ilam…which is situated in magical and beautiful setting in National Trust lands.

The views from the farm and across to Hall Dale (where you can walk to the Rive Dove) are amazing from the barn, and sunsets spectacular! With the 20 acres of gardens and grounds our farm lends itself for some amazing photographs, we have added some to our facebook page and Karl and I are often following you around taking photographs. You couldn't have a wedding at the farm without including the animals as the Goats and Alpacas love to photo bomb and are tame so photographs with them are often asked for.

 Dovedale Barn can easily seat from 60 - 150 guests for formal or informal dining, Hog Roasts, Garden Parties or even a festival theme! And we include tables and chairs, dance floor and stage in the price. If you require additional guests over this number, it is possible but at an extra cost to include staff and infrastructure.

The grounds are also great for games, tugs or war, fun activities, garden parties or a festival theme with loads of room to set up bouncy castles or anything of your choice.


Prices: Please enquire personally for prices as we try and be as transparent as possible as want to give you a good idea of what everything costs with no hidden extras. The Barn and Cottages are fixed costs and once booked will not change.

Costs include:

Dovedale Barn and Garden Room (inclusive of Furniture, Tables, Chairs, Stage, Dance Floor, Fairy Lights, Toilets and Power) In addition we can supply other useful items like crockery, cutlery and glassware if needed but hire of these items apart from staff are non-obligatory extras that support Dovedale Animal Sanctuary. Heating is extra if required, especially in winter!  

Even though the Barn is hired on a DIY basis, we will not leave you to fend for yourself on the day and depending upon numbers of guests, normally three or four staff will be hired on a head per ratio basis for around 10 hours, you’ll get Karl & I for free!  We will try and do everything we can to help, (apart from any catering help unless prearranged as this is sourced by you directly)

We also help with serving your welcome drinks and/or canapés, Pouring champagne for speeches, putting out and cutting up your cakes etc., as well as helping to put out food such as cheese and biscuits at the end of the evening or late night meal. We also help with clearing tables on the night, washing up and leaving everything as clean and tidy as possible by the end of the evening, this helps you enormously with your clearing up the following day!


Bar options. Our venue is private and we prefer a free no sales option. However we can work with you to manage and run it.


There is a ceremony cost at the farm, however this is not charged if you marry elsewhere. You can also elope here and just have a ceremony a little like Greta Green!


Accommodation: Hire is for three nights or four over a long weekend, normally from Friday to Monday this is inclusive of linen, heating and power, extra nights are also available.
Exclusive Hire of the accomodation is compulsory and this inludes the courtyard property as well as the farmhouse B&B rooms (no breakfast!) together you can sleep up to to 28 guests in 13 bedrooms. The Courtyard property is adapted for large groups and facilities include four poster beds, a large area to seat all guests together, a games room, parking, BBQ's and Garden areas, perfect for use on the Friday and Sunday! We do not mind you sub-letting the cottages to help with costs and we can also arrange camping within walking distance of the farm.

Now for the serious part! We are a very individual and relaxed venue, with two quirky rules! As we are situated in The Peak District National Park these are included in our planning conditions and we could not operate unless they are adhered to:


Noise.  Amplified music is welcome until 11.30 but Live Bands must finish at 11pm and then a lower degree of amplified music for the last half hour. All non-resident guests must leave the site by midnight. We have a noise limiter installed but the barn does have soundproof insulation as well, so we welcome Ceilidh's, Good Bands and Disco's with no problems, however if you are looking for a loud head banging, rock, heavy rave type event or even a full blown Jazz band we are not for you.


Parking.  We have a dedicated Travel plan and our allocation of cars parked at the cottages and farm buildings is limited. (However we do have extra space for those camping on site in our fields) for smaller weddings we can accommodate most cars. For larger weddings, (we would assume most of your guests would stay in local B&Bs or hotels) the best option for parking is to use our local coach company Warrington's in Ilam 01335 350204 who are happy to ferry your guests to and from there accommodation, back to the farm and then back to their accommodation at the end of the evening. (This option will not break the bank)  By using this system we find that it works really well as it keeps everyone on site as well as enabling your guests to drink and relax without the worry of driving home.


Other Accommodation: If you have a large number of guests you will find additional accommodation plentiful. We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the Peak District with many Hotels, B&B's, self-catering properties as well as Ilam Youth Hostel very close by, many of these are on our country road and walkable! Plus we have limited camping near the farm so please ask for details.


If you would like a wedding that is a completely different experience for three days, relaxed, happy, with your own theme and very much your own thing! With maybe a few goats, ponies and alpacas (part of our onsite animal sanctuary) in your photographs with far reaching stunning views and the odd Hay bale or two, then maybe we are for you!

As well as venturing into wedding parties we also offer Retreats, Corporate Event days, Team building, Hen and Stag parties and Large function events to 30 guests. Specialist parties like 40th 50th combined Birthdays. Charity Functions etc. Our venue is exclusive and private in a stunning setting within the Heart of the Peak District National Park and is a perfect setting for any event.


We are also happy to provide and donate (subject to availability) our facilities for local community and charity events so please call us for details



All our events in any form are completely exclusive and private. We do not announce who uses our facilities and you can be assured that we never will.

We are not a hotel so do not have all the facilities this would provide as we provide a self-catering package, however we try and make your stay unique to you and provide you with comfort, great facilities and a lovely setting in which you can create your own unique team building and meeting experience.

Our secure and private off site meetings are held without any distractions. However we can provide catering and function room facilities like tea, coffee and cake! as well as technology to ensure your meetings run smoothly.


Accommodation is included with the use of Dovedale Barn and any mid-week stays are for a minimum of two nights. We can sleep up to 28 guests if happy to share facilities or if your guests need individual rooms we have 13 bedrooms, three breakoff rooms and many other facilities to ensure you have a wonderul time.


Many of our clients tell us that our property has provided the teams with a wonderful experiance, unique to anything else. We personally tailor to your requirements and helpin anyway we can. even when we send you off in the morning on a treasure hunt to find items for your breakfast!


For retreats and corporate meetings etc, the use of Dovedale Barn and all the break off rooms plus the farm grounds and fields are included in the hire.


"Dovedale Barn" is often used for guests for wet weather days, or when the grounds are wet or its not nice to be outside. The Garden room is perfect for meetings up to 30 guests and there are toilet and shower facilities in the barn. There is also a bar as well as a palour area where you can provide Tea coffee or prepare food. Tables and Chairs as well as PA equipment is also included.

Our property lends itself to relaxed informal gatherings where you can unwind and distance yourself from the outside world, hopefully making meetings easy and stress free!.

All Hire is on a DIY basis, though we are happy to help you to organise your event and provide facilities to make it easier for you.

We can also provide details of local suppliers from marquees to caterers, Rock Climbing, Canoeing Kayaking, Mountain biking, walking tours, adrenaline courses to yoga or art workshops whatever you require we can source, we can also arrange hot air balloons taking off at the farm.


Alternatively we can lead you off on a treasure hunt around Ilam, Dovedale and the manifold valley. We can lead you on a guided walk or steer you in the right direction for you to create your own package.


Our philosophy is that nothing is a problem and our clients tell us that we are a hidden gem, just don't tell anyone!
